There are a lot of articles about parenthood. There are tips and advises readily available with just a click. But is parenthood something that we can really prepare for?
Simple answer is.. No! Being a parent is always based on your own experience. Time will be your best ally in terms of learning the ins and outs of parenthood. Some advice may work, but every child is different and most importantly, every parent is different. It all depends on your capabilities and of course, patience.
That is actually one key in good parenting, Patience. It takes a lot of it and honestly, it is not an easy task. All of us have our limits. We have this certain point where in patience and other character traits run out. We have all encountered this and it is something that we don't have to be ashamed of.
It doesn't mean that running out of patience on your child is bad parenting. You may have burst out in front of them but the crucial thing is how you recover after. That is one of the most important aspect in good parenting.
Kids will be kids. We can't expect them to be on point all the time. There will always be mishaps, accidents, and pure old laziness (both from the child and the parent). But one thing that we have to keep in mind is that parenting is a life long journey that usually starts rough but ends in pure happiness.
Getting mad is normal. But how you show it is something different. Again, recovering from those emotions is the key. Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and most importantly, hug your child. These usually takes the edge off.
We all have our own ways in coping from anger but we have to keep in mind, we entered parenthood in our own volition. So being responsible for it is not a question, it is a must! Again, it starts rough but it'll be smoother along the way.
So what really is the reality of parenting? It all depends on you. How you react from exhaustion, from anger, from sleepless nights, the answer is basically what parenthood is.
