Sunday Family Meal: Grill Day

We truly make it a habit to prepare something special every Sunday. When we started living together, this was one of the ground rules that we imposed, Sunday is our family day! This is something that we think is very important especially now that our daughter is becoming more receptive.

However, this can be a struggle sometimes. Coming up with family meal ideas on a budget is somewhat challenging with the prices of almost everything is at an all time high. But regardless of that, we are really trying to make Sunday lunch time a bonding experience for us.

On our previous article, we have mentioned that family days are important. It is an integral part of a strong family foundation. Sunday lunch maybe the most important part of our Sundays. We consider this the climax of our family day.

Preparing a menu for this doesn't have to be expensive and tiresome. There are simple and quick family meal ideas out there that you can turn in to something special. For this week, we decided on having a simple grill day (inihaw!)

Sunday Meal: Grill Day

Where we live, Tuna is king. You can buy this almost anywhere, fresh or frozen. The most common part of the tuna that is considered grill-friendly is the Panga (Tuna Jaw). You can buy this anytime of the year but if ever you want to try this, best have the fresh ones.

Some marinate this in soy sauce and calamansi or lemon, and lots of garlic. Leave it marinated for a few hours and start grilling. But for us, we find that the best way to grill this is just using dry rub, salt and pepper. One tip though, always start it with the skin side down. Leave it for about 7-9 minutes and flip. The meat side cooks about 4-6 minutes. Then flip again on each side for another 3-4 minutes. And this is the cherry on top, on the last flip, baste the meat side with garlic butter. It will enhance the tuna flavor (as per our experience).

So, quick meals can be turned in to something special. As long as you have your family with you, Sunday lunch can be a nurturing meal!
